Douglas Elementary School
Douglas, MA
Douglas Elementary School was constructed to address overcrowding at the Intermediate School. The project aimed to create a harmonious campus that complements the rural landscape, minimizing disruption during construction. The new school welcomes visitors with an inviting character and a sense of arrival from various approaches. Classrooms are located on the upper levels, fostering a serene and quiet environment, while the first floor houses public and interactive spaces, designed to be vibrant and engaging with playful elements like vivid materials and dynamic circulation patterns. Three stair towers highlight the entries. The building's orientation optimizes natural daylight, and energy-efficient features, including daylighting controls, helped the school achieve LEED-Silver certification.
